Ariana Rivens

Connection. Care. Communication. These values are the foundation of my strengths-based therapy approach. I believe in the power of serving as a warm, compassionate collaborator with clients who meaningfully reflect on life’s challenges, and work to build a life worth living. I integrate cognitive-behavioral, interpersonal, and dialectical behavioral techniques in session and prioritize making space for emotion to be felt and expressed. Therapy with me works best when clients feel comfortable sharing how their identities, lived experiences, and relationship to power and privilege impact their lives. This allows me to make sure that therapy is responsive to your needs and acknowledges the world you navigate each day. It also allows us to explore how your patterns of distress, coping strategies, and access to support may have evolved over time.

I enjoy meeting with individuals ranging from adolescence to adulthood and am skilled to work on diverse issues such as anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, identity exploration, medical illnesses, and relationship/communication problems (i.e., navigating friendships, family ties, and romantic relationships). I specialize in providing culturally-responsive care to folks who belong to marginalized groups, namely people of color and queer, trans and other LGBTQIA+ community members.

I am a licensed clinical psychologist in Pennsylvania. In 2024, I earned my PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Virginia with a focus on Black adolescents and young adults mental health, intergenerational relationships, and culturally competent therapy. I completed my predoctoral internship/residency at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine Department of Psychiatry. I also conduct applied academic research on ways to make mental health services more accessible and inclusive, especially for those who face injustice.
